The Colors of Memories
Stephanie Rosenthal
2020.
Through the manipulation and contemplation of colors and light, Stephanie Rosenthal explores the key thoughts and recollections that define an individual in The Colors of Memories. She touches on a number of human experiences in her growing body of work, using personal anecdotes relating to the family, the home, and constructs of self-image to navigate identity. Rosenthal’s installation demonstrates how we visualize our past, and how it is influenced by time, as light performs in synchronicity with translucency and hue. The multi-layered installation is reflective of different tunnels of consciousness. As the source of light changes over the hours, so does the installation.

The tunnel book format is ideal for expressing memories as layered areas of consciousness as it forces a physical perspective: foreground, middle, and background.
