NOPALANDIA

Shelly Crooz

Fall 2020

NOPALANDIA features a combination of digital art and printmaking to further explore the realms of Crooz’s Mexican cultural heritage. She investigates indigenous textile designs, translating this craft into linoleum block prints that cover the walls of installation space. Her digital work explores ideas of femininity and spirituality within her culture. The term Nopalandia is a made up word, which is a conjunction of the word nopal and land in spanish; translating to land of the nopales. Due to their cultural significance, Nopales are a recurring symbol in Crooz’s work.
